Pink Cat Studio ~ Jun 23rd Digi Release!

Happy Thursday! Pink Cat Studio has a new release today but unfortunately I don't have a new card to share with you. I guess it's a sign that I'm getting old when quite a few of my injuries come back to haunt me every time it rains! My neck and back have been horrible this week, as well as my wrists, so I haven't done much crafting at all. I'd like to share an older card I made with the Kitty & Sweet Bird silhouette, much like the ones being released today.

I had made this one for Angela after her sweet Marty passed away. These solid images print beautifully and they definitely make an impact no matter what theme you choose to feature them in. You can find all the details for this card HERE.

I also have a story to share with you regarding this card (details HERE) that I gave to my Dad this past Father's Day. As you know, I've made cards for my parents ever since I was a little girl. They've never received a store-bought card from me. If that were to happen, they would hit the roof. Well, when they saw this card they both exclaimed together, "You bought a card?!" I said no and they said, "But it's so beautiful!" {Imagine me trying not to roll my eyes.} If you know anything about traditional Chinese parents of that generation, or have read anything about the Tiger Mother, you might understand what I've been going through my whole life! For 11 years when I studied piano and violin, I competed a lot. For a first place, I would get, "That's nice," and for a second place, I would get, "You should've won first place." I didn't get any positive encouragement. Yes, it was pretty horrible and still happens to this day! That's why I never told them about my paper crafting success until Sunday. That's right! It was very awkward when I told them about my design teams, winnings and publications. My parents were very quiet, stared at me and had only the slightest hint of a smile on their faces. I think they were proud but I can never be sure! LOL At least they really love the card, right? :Þ

Thanks so much for stopping by today! You can find inspiration for today's release on the Pink Cat Studio Blog or the design team links on my sidebar. Enjoy the rest of your week!

BOth cards are beautiful executed and I can imagine why your mum thought that it was from store! Gosh! I can understand how you feel about traditional way of upbringing. When they are proud they never show it but then it's not well done, they will scream at the top of their heads!!! I'm so glad we are one step away from them...

Hi Emily - both the cards are so sweet and I esp love the Father's Day card!! It's really amazing!!
I totally understand what you shared about Chinese parents..{grin} mine are exactly the same. I think it's also a generation thing - over time my siblings and I have gotten used to their choice of words and what they really mean. {LOL}
Take good care of yourself, rest the back and your wrist. Hugs, Kary

Sorry to hear you're not 100% Emily. Your cards are so beautiful and I hope you feel very proud of your success. I also know very well what you mean about this kind of upbringing. But at least you have learned very well about what NOT to do with your own son!

Hi Emily!

These are great! Loooove that stylish black cat and the card you made with it! Like you I also never bought a card for my parents, only made them myself! Though since I discovered stamping, they did get to look a bit more 'professional' than the glued together ones they received before, hi hi!

Hugs, Wendy

Sorry you've been feeling rough, dude. Hope the aches give you a break soon.

My dad was like your parents. Not fun but it is what it is. I'm sure they're proud on the inside even if they can't seem to let it show. And if you're ever in doubt just check out your blog to be reminded how kick ass people think you are! :)

Wonderful frame. You make simple so creative!
Perhaps thinking a card is store bought is the best compliment :>) Hope you are feeling better and that the sun starts shining where you are!

Emily, I hope you start to feel better quickly. Any type of recurring pain is awful. I adore your cards and your parents are right your coloring is amazing and does look store bought! I'm sure it is a balance with your parents; I'd love to hear their praise when you're not in the room. I'm sure it is happening!

You are amazing. Great cards too! (And I'm still in the process of responding via email...)

Hi Emily! Love your cards, that little birdie on the cats tail, cutie! Parents, people, us, we all express ourselves in so many different ways, and sometimes we don't hear the words we actually wanted to hear, but we know that they love us. My parents have no clue about me, my ahievements, my real loves in life, my failures, but I have accepted that they love/d me, and that will have to be enough for me! In my books, you rock!

such a sweet thought for your friend, angela:) being a parent, you must realize your parents are proud of everything you've accomplished--some have a hard time showing it--but its there:)

It IS a very sweet card -- and yep, that kitty looks amazing in person (Thanks again, Em!).

Ah, if only parents could find that happy place between all and nothing, if you know what I mean...I bet that's where you are, though. Feel better, my friend.

Such gorgeous cards, and you know what I bet your parents a very proud of you, they just struggle to find a way to show it!

such cute cards!! you're a fabulous fussy cutter ;) the Unity border and the dual-color sentiment are wonderful!! I'm sure your parents are really proud of you, but just don't show it- how couldn't they be proud, you're fabulous!! :D

ADORABLE cards, Emily!! I'm so sorry that your parents aren't able to express how proud of you they must be!! Your work is ever so lovely and delightful. I always enjoy stopping by to see what you've been up to. Keep up the wonderful work! (And I hope your aches and pains get better soon.)

Sadly I can understand what your talking about in terms of your parents! But it's so nice hahaha so bad!!! At least now as a mother you can learn from there mistakes! :> Sorry about your back. I too have neck and shoulder pain so I am understand. What really helps me is that my hubby massages me with a tennis ball every night, the tennis ball hits the deep muscles and it helps amazing! :> Or you can lay on the floor with it under you! :>Hope you feel better soon!!!

Yes, I am ready for this current storm system to move on, too. Hope you're back to fussy-cutting soon, but it's always nice to see a couple of blasts from the past! :)

Old or not, such a beautiful card! Love the black cat.
I hope you will feel better!

Wonderful cards, Emily- That cat is really cool and so are a bunch from the new digi release. Thank goodness I have decided to try to stay away from digis!
I think we all have issues with our parents...my mom never expresses herself in the way that I would hope she would. I suppose as I age I have just grown to accept that's just who she is. I don't really like it, and if I could I would change it, but I am at peace with it. What I hope is that I express myself better with my own children. I am sure you are that way as well - Isn't it nice to know we are not alone? :)

Love both of your cards. Great cutting around the images, too. LOL @ your parents. Not just Chinese - Asians of the older generation - don't really cut loose w/ emotion so it's hard to tell what they're really thinking, lol. Rest assured - if they didn't say anything negative, they must be really proud, lol. And we are here to pat you on the back.

I LOVE your cards, but I also had to sit here and nod my head in agreement with your story about your parents! I hear ya! When I graduated salutatorian in HS, I came home excited to tell my parents. My dad said, "Why aren't you valedictorian?" And I totally get that "slightest hint of a smile" thing too!

I hope the sun comes out soon for you Emily! Goodness me, are your old injuries from being so competitive as a child. ;)

I second what Jen said, I'm sure your parents are extremely proud of you, despite their inability to show it. We are all here to support you, and delight in your successes. But we all know that there is just something extra special about knowing your parents are proud of you.

{hugs}

Oh crap! I forgot to comment on your fabulous cards! Again, your master colouring skills are on display for us to drool over. :)

Sweet, sweet cards :) Be assured that your parents are very proud of you, it's just the culture. But you already know that...My husband tells the story that he went to his Jr.High graduation by himself, being driven by his friends parents, and his parents are both American. Yet they would never miss a program the grandkids had. Go figure. Hope you are feeling better soon!

FABULOUS cards! + your coloring is AMAZING!!! So inspiring to visit your blog! Thanks!

BabyBokChoy said...

You should have said "Bought it from my own store!" lol.

We've talked about this. It's a cultural thing and therefore not necessarily wrong, just different, how our parents' generation give our (or withhold) praise. But deep down, do you really doubt that your parents love/appreciate/are proud/think the world of you? Yeah. :)

I would like to buy that black cat card from your store please.

Hi there Emily, Fabulous cards, love both!! I sympathise with the whole parent scenario. I'm certain they feel this way is the right way to react to you and you've achieved success despite/because of them, so it has made you who you are and that's a very lovely person:0) Have a wonderful weekend, hugs Gay xxx

Your cards are great! I'm sure your parents are proud of you! For me card-making comes from somewhere inside that is very personal and vulnerable, sometimes hard to describe or share with people. Isn't it amazing that no matter our age, we long for parental approval?!! Your abilities are amazing!

Julie said...

These cards are both gorgeous! I hope you're feeling better soon!

I'm sure you're parents are beaming with pride at all your talents! I know I'm impressed with your awesome crafting skills! You are AWESOME!

Loved the trying not to roll your eyes comment. Sounds like me with my family sometimes!
