It's a Family Affair

My head hurts at the moment because I got sick a couple days ago and haven't been able to catch up on sleep yet. There's still so much to do to clean up after the holidays. Hopefully I can get some me time soon. January is already speeding by so it's time to share the holiday card I made for my son, the ones that he made for us and the one that my husband made for me!

You knew it would feature a penguin, right? ;) I inked up Penguin Love for the first time and made this one-layer card for the little guy. He has a habit of wanting to rip off any pieces that are added to a card so I masked everything and made a sweet little Arctic (or Antarctic) scene for him. I coloured only the penguin and his Christmas tree to make them pop, shaded some of the grey areas, and added some Stickles to the snow(flakes) and tree. His reaction? He stared at it for a bit and then said, "Wow, that (is) really beautiful, Mommy," threw it on the ground and moved on to something else. LOL I had to pick it up and ask him what was on it. He said, "One pinguini, his Christmas tree and two igloos!" It's now displayed proudly amongst his toys and he looks at it occasionally.

Before our house guests arrived, I asked the little guy if he wanted to make some Christmas cards for anyone. He replied, "Ya, one for you and one for Baba! Let's go make them now!" I love his enthusiasm for stamping. LOL I showed him all the penguin stamp sets and asked him which ones he wanted to use. He picked them and then I showed him cardstock colours, ink colours and he chose everything you see on these cards! He purposely stamped the two cards a little differently. He even doodled inside with a pen and pretended to write messages to me and my husband. It was all very cute. My husband has his on his desk at work and mine is in the kitchen. :)

If you seen the other cards my husband has made for me, you will remember that he likes to look through my stamps and stash of cards for ideas. Sometimes he remembers certain cards I've made made and will ask me how I made them. I think it's hilarious, especially when I see the result of his questions! I'm sure you can guess what he based this card on. I'm amazed at the way he outlined the sweater and paper pieced it! :O

Hopefully I can find some time this week to share all the Christmas RAKs (or CRAKs) that I received! They went on my mantel as soon as they arrived and I've been admiring them ever since. Thank you to all of you who sent cards over the holiday season!

Your card is awesome (no surprise, of course), D's are super-cute! (Is he being gentler with the stamps yet?)

But the Mr's card is amazing! Not only did he paper-piece, use twine, selectively ink a stamp -- but he die-cut AND matted white on white? He's definitely taking a page from the Emily playbook!

Way to go, family!

Oh, how I love all of these! Damian's cards are so sweet, and I just love that he has such enthusiasm! And your hubby...well, you KNOW you're lucky, right? Awesome.

And I can't believe I forgot to say, I hope you feel better ASAP. I know it's the traditional time to be icky, but I hope it doesn't last!

I'll be smiling all day after this Emily :) So adorable- the story of how D thinks your card is beautiful and then just tosses it aside! Ha! Basically the same happens with mine and they are 11 and 12! It's so funny the lack of appreciation for such hard work :)You better look out for that hubby of yours! Looks like he may be trying to nudge you out of a job! LOL Thanks for sharing :)

Your card for D. is just perfect! And what is it with little ones and pulling off the pop-dotted stuff? Happens to me, too. :P And did D. pick the same pinguini set as you used before he saw your card to him? As to the card your husb made, well, the sentiment couldn't be more appropriate and his inking and paper-piecing skills are quite impressive. :)

Love the sentiment you used on the penguin card, so cute. How great that your son chose all the elements for his festive cards but I have to say your husbands card along with your entry made me laugh out loud. You have a very fun and crafty family :)

Hi Emily! I hope that you start feeling better soon because my world would be boring without your gorgeous creations and really fun filled posts! I love your gorgeous card today and your sons, but heck, your husband is becoming quite the pro! All kudos to you of course!

Aw, what sweet cards from everyone! Love the penguin scene you created for the little guy and love his cards that he made--looks like you have a little Picasso on your hands there. Mr Heart's card is fabulous--love that he crafts just like you, with some kraft paper fussy cutting, white space, and twine! Hope you recover from the holidays soon!

Your boys are so talented. I told my husband, "Emily's husband goes into her stuff and makes her cards." He said, "Oh ya, that is pretty cool." I don't think he got my hint! Ha.
