{Paper Smooches} SquirrelFest: Part 2 with CHALLENGE + Giveaway!

My son loves to draw, colour and paint. If he has paper and a writing tool, he'll be occupied for hours! Of course, he spends a lot of time with me in the craft room, too. A while back, he was watching me heat emboss and watercolour, and begged to use my Gansai paints. I hesitated for the longest time. They're my precious Gansai paints! I finally relented and he had the best time.

He picked the images to create the scene and I helped him stamp them with black Archival ink on Fabriano watercolour paper. This paper is so thick and luscious, fabulous for one-layer cards! After watercolouring, he asked if he could use my Wink of Stella marker on the clouds and squirrel. I thought letting him use my Gansai paints was luxurious enough. My Wink of Stella marker?! Ack!

So that's today's squirrelly share. ;)

You're a better mom than me! I don't think I would be willing to share my Gansai's! He did such a great job though!

You are so nice for letting him use your nice watercolor set!! I have a cheap set that I let my nieces use without too much worry! But last time they got into my liquid pearls and oh! What a mess! I love the picture your son created.

Wow, your son is just as talented as you are, and you know how kids are...they always want to use whatever we ourselves have saved for the best. They know it must be something special. His picture came out beautifully.

He has got your artist genes!!! What a lucky kid to be able to play with all of Mom's stash!!! Children's art work are always so special because they can see the world in such different perspective that we adults may not see. Thanks so much for sharing.

Oh my stars!! Your son is so talented!! I just love that he loves to create as much as you! What a lovely bond to have!! It makes my heart happy!! And dude - you shared your most precious supplies with him?!? Brave!!! And so giving and loving!!! I used to try to buy my little menn their own versions of my supplies (like dollar store gelatos, target watercolor palette, and 'special' mom-copic markers!) but in the end, it's not the same! So usually they use my stuff as well - under my supervision! Ha!
Love the squirrel challenge here!! I'll totally play along! You're amazing!

Some of my fondest memories are of crafting with my son and daughter, and now I am lucky enough to have a 4 year old grand-daughter who loves to stamp with her Grammie! I really do believe that children can learn to be careful with their tools and supplies (with good supervision of course) and develop a love of crafting along the way. Adorable card and story!

Oh Emily, you are such a good Mama! And his painting is wonderful! I think crafting is one of the best things you can do for or with your kids. I crafted with both of mine, a boy and a girl. We decorated cookies, made our own play dough and finger paints, they always had their own water colors due to it being a requirement for school supplies. As a child I loved the Tempera paints at school. My mom also always let my little brother and I craft at home and she passed recipes for things when my kids were little. My adult children are so crafty in many different areas and it makes me so proud! Jon has far surpassed Katie and I in his crafting, he does some amazing paint techniques on cars/jet skiis/anything metal, he wood carves gun stocks-surf boards-long skate boards etc., welds fun things (robots/dogs...I have one of the dogs and he's so cute) and does beautiful wood finishes too. Katie loves pottery and treats me with some of her hand made goodies and she makes fun sewn items as gifts, as well as enjoys acrylic painting on canvas. I'm so proud! Katie's baby is 2 and she asks to stamp every time we visit the craft studio. LOL She was trying to sew the other day. I made her get down and she said, No Nana I'm sewing. I unplugged it.

I have this battle daily! I usually put some distress ink on to plastic container lids & let them blend & paint to their hearts content :)
