{Technique Tuesday} December 2018 Release Countdown: Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of Technique Tuesday's December 2018 Release Countdown! The design team is featuring a variety of release products and you're sure to love them so be sure to head over to the Technique Tuesday blog for the full reveal and links to all of the amazing projects. All of the product links will go live on December 1, 2018 for your shopping pleasure.

Today, I'm showcasing the Beau & Beatrice Beaver stamp set and coordinating dies. This is the next addition to the Animal House Collection and you know it's going to be punny!

Two Halloweens ago, my entire family dressed up as Minecraft characters. Hubby plays Minecraft as a beaver and while I can't remember why he picked that particular skin, it stuck and now we're all pretty fond of beavers. After all, they're loyal and hardworking. Plus, have you Googled photos of baby beavers?

I used masking paper to build a beaver lodge with the log image. I had originally intended to colour it but after I coloured the beavers and placed them in front of the lodge, I knew it would be too busy so I left it uncoloured. The Beau & Beatrice Beaver stamp set comes with two cute sentiments that would work for a birthday but I wanted a slightly more sarcastic one so the second part of the sentiment is from Sassy Birthday, as are the candles on top of the lodge, making it look like a tiered birthday cake.

***I won't be participating on Day 2 of the December Release Countdown since my package hasn't arrived due to Canada Post labour disputes but I will see you on Release Day with holiday beavers!

{Ellen Hutson} 12th Anniversary Instagram Hop

Hello, crafty friends! Today is Day 3 of a three-day Instahop, celebrating 12 fabulous years at Ellen Hutson LLC!! It's an amazing milestone for Ellen and her store, and so many of Ellen's friends and designers are sending her warm fuzzies on this special occasion.

I created my card, featuring Ellen, of course, using Bookworm Lady and Wonky Backdrops.

I stamped, die cut and watercoloured the images using distress inks. Then I created a plush carpet using one of the border stamps from Wonky Backdrops. I stamped the carpet in three of the colours to coordinate with the scene and anchor all of the elements.

I pre-arranged the scene to gauge positioning before stamping two sentiments together to create one longer sentiment. Then I secured the mug and book in her hands using glue dots and popped up all of the elements on foam tape.

This is one of those scenes that you wish you were actually inside, isn't it? ;) Be sure to head over to my Instagram to hop along with today's designers and join us in celebrating Ellen's successes and enjoy inspiration from all of today's projects.

Thanks so much for hopping with us!

{Two Many Cards Video Series} featuring Gerda Steiner Designs + Giveaway!

Hi, everyone! Kalyn and I are back with our video series, Two Many Cards. If you missed our other videos in this series, check out the original post HERE, which explains how and why we're sharing our own unique take on the same products.

Today, we're featuring On the Bookshelf by Gerda Steiner Designs! These stamps and dies are also sold separately at Ellen Hutson and Simon Says Stamp, and you can find those links below. There are a lot of sales going on this week so be sure to check 'em out!

This is one of my favourite sets by Gerda Steiner Designs. It has kitties, books, plants, a globe and a picture frame and, of course, a shelf that doubles as a desk and frame. Yes, really!

For my first card, I flipped the shelf and made it a desk for bookish kitty and her must-haves. All of the images were stamped with Archival Jet Black ink and watercoloured with distress inks. You can find all of the colours I used in the supply links below.

I love the simplicity of this first card, especially with the splattered glow anchoring the desk.

I went for a more artistic look for my second card. I also turned it into a shaker card by using the die for the desk as a frame.

My favourite part of this card is the repeating sentiment, which I stamped with the same distress inks I used to colour all of the images.

I filled the border with crystal from Studio Katia and retired sequins from Neat & Tangled. I've listed all of these supplies and substitutes below for your shopping convenience.

{Lawn Fawn} Critter Concert Shaker Tags

This year, my son started playing percussion (yes, all of the percussions instruments) in a junior band outside of school. It's a full-year commitment of several hours a week but he's loving it. This weekend, they were allowed to bring friends, both experienced and inexperienced, to share their joy of music.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I love to bake as much as I love to craft and I wanted to make some thank you gifts for Damian's friends. I made Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies and packaged them in little tins with 16 cookies in each!

Lawn Fawn's Critter Concert stamp set and coordinating dies featured the perfect animals for band camp - yes, the owl is playing violin or viola but that doesn't matter. I coloured all four animals with Copic markers (colours are listed below) and paired them up in each snow globe, stamped with Ready, Set, Snow and Ready, Set, Shake.

To make the shaker window, I used the Ready, Set, Snow Shaker Add-On dies. I sponged the base of the background with Faded Jeans distress ink and stamped the music notes in the same colour. I filled the shakers with Studio Katia's 3mm Crystal Clear sequins. They're so super shiny!

My son wanted to write a little thank you note in these tags so I made sure they opened by adding a third solid layer, scored at the back so they would open and close easily. In order to attach the metallic silver string and secure the tag to the tins, I added a little tab from My Favorite Things' Tag Builder Blueprints 6 between the two base layers.

Muse ChristmasVisions Challenge #113 + 25 Days of Christmas Tags

I'm thrilled to be a guest designer for Muse: ChristmasVisions #113! Our theme this week is botanicals - trees, mistletoe, holly, any festive greenery works - and we're playing along with Tracey McNeely's annual 25 Days of Christmas Tags. I used Winnie & Walter's Framed, In Bloom: Ashlee's Rosie Posies and Sentimental: Winter to create these non-traditional holiday tags.

I absolutely love the ribbon banner image from the Framed stamp set. It's big enough to be a tag so I decided to use it as the tag. I cut a second, unstamped shape, scored it along the left edge and secured it to the back of the stamped banners.

While I had the Framed stamp set out, I also stamped and watercoloured the foliage that comes in three sizes and curves in both directions. They're perfect for creating laurels and wreaths. I used Altenew dye inks to watercolour the banner and foliage - Parrot, Olive and Moss.

I also stamped all of the florals from In Bloom: Ashlee's Rosie Posies using Altenew inks - Frosty Pink, Coral Berry, Ruby Red, Grapevine, Maple Yellow and Honey Drizzle. If you would like to see  Ashlee's Rosie Posies in action, I used it for the second Two Many Cards video HERE.

To finish, I masked the sentiments from Sentimental: Winter, to stamp them on two lines. Then I assembled the florals and foliage using glue dots and adhered them to the tags. I used a 0.125" hole punch in the corner, looped black hemp cord, and added some sparkling crystals.

Be sure to link up your Muse: ChristmasVisions entries HERE and your 25 Days of Christmas Tags entries HERE for a chance to win prizes from the amazing sponsors below.

Thanks so much for playing along!

25 Days of Christmas Tags with Technique Tuesday

Hello, friends! It's Day 13 of Tracey McNeely's 25 Days of Christmas Tags event and we're featuring Technique Tuesday products. I was able to use five different sets on my tag and still keep it clean and simple but with a lot of visual interest, glitter and texture. These are the little things that make me happy! The Bow on the Border Die is the focus, die cut from red glitter cardstock. I used white linen cardstock on the left, mainly because I wanted the outline on the right and as a contrast to the kraft tag base. I took the opportunity to heat emboss gold snowflakes from the Dani Deer Stamp Set.

The small gift tag within the main tag was heat embossed using stamps from My Trip, Classic Christmas Sentiments and Captions and Labels Dies. To finish, I added black chevron ribbon and gold metallic string. Be sure to visit my corresponding Instagram post to see just how sparkly this tag is!

Be sure to visit Tracey McNeely's blog for more inspiration, including tags from my Technique Tuesday teammates, and full details on how you can participate and win prizes.

{Paper Smooches} Celebrate and Enjoy Your Day

It was quite dreary today, with lots of rain and high winds, so it was the perfect day to make a bright and cheerful birthday card. This is for a friend who loves alcohol as much as I do so I broke out some neglected Paper Smooches birthday stamps and drink dies. I started at the bottom of this card, die cutting the Free Spirits glasses and using daubers to sponge in the background colour and splattering with water.

Next, I heat embossed the Birthday Bash sentiment and die cut 'celebrate' from gold glitter cardstock using the Birthday Words dies. I glued the die cut word over the stamped word, leaving a bit of black as a shadow. I also heat embossed the Birthday Bash balloons and watercoloured them with the same distress ink colours I used for the drinks. I splattered shimmer spritz on the top panel and added the various sequins, striped paper and a gold strip to finish.
