VIDEO | Taylored Expressions | Oh, What a Day! Cardmaking Kit Design Ideas + Alternatives

If you're a fan of MuchSketch's collection of Little CrittersBitty Borders and Max & Millie stamp sets (full list below), you'll love the Oh, What a Day! Cardmaking Kit. I love this adorable new assortment of slightly larger animals and fun mix of sentiments!

I created four cards, focused primarily on design ideas around the Focal Frame. You can use these layouts with any style of frame and image or even a sentiment on the inside of the frame!

I started by choosing four of the seven images included in the Occasional Critters stamp set. I stamped them with Oreo ink and coloured them with Copic markers. You can find a list of all the marker colours in the supply links below.

I die cut them using the coordinating Occasional Critters Dies and set them aside. Next, I die cut the Focal Frame from the kit colours, which are Lollipop, Candy Corn and Lemon Meringue cardstock. I also die cut the frame from neutral colours, including Sea Salt, Earl Grey and Oreo cardstock.

For this first card, I created a Lollipop card base and added texture to the Sugar Cube panel using the largest of the Diagonal Stitch Rectangle Stacklets. I stamped the sentiment from the Essential Sentiments stamp set and popped the image and layered frame on to the card.

My second card features three frames in the kit's colours but only the Lollipop frame is dimensional.

After determining the gallery-style layout of the frames, I stamped the sentiment from Essential Sentiments and glued the frames to the panel.

I trimmed off the overhanging frames and adhered the panel to an Earl Grey card base.

For this third card, I used the Dotted Diamonds Stencil included in the kit with LollipopCandy Corn and Lemon Meringue inks and blender brushes to create a sweet, subtle background. When done, I cut that panel using the largest of the Stitched Rectangle Stacklets.

To create the background behind the bear, I simply used my paper trimmer to cut the Focal Frame inserts from the previous card. I taped the pieces together and adhered them to the card.

This next card features a shaker on the main frame, using the Rainbow Rhinestones included in the kit. This time, I stamped the sentiment vertically on the right edge of the panel.

I glued the shaker frame on the other two frames before attaching the trio to the panel and trimming off the overhanging portion.

I used all three of the Easy Strips Dies to create the strips down the right edge of the card base. I cut the Lollipop strip using the Easy Strips 1/2" Die, the Candy Corn strip using the Easy Strips 1/4" Die and the Lemon Meringue strip using the Easy Strips 1/8" Die.

There are some new rules for this year's kits. Individual items will no longer be sold individually at a later date nor will kits be restocked. For these reasons, if you see a kit you love, grab it before it's gone!

UPDATED: This kit sold out FAST but I hope you'll be inspired to use my design ideas with similar products listed below. I've also included a list of my videos featuring other MuchSketch products HERE.

Spellbinders | Congrats Card feat. Be Bold Color Block Collection + Sale!

Hello, crafty friends! I had the pleasure of playing with the Be Bold Color Block Congrats Etched Dies from the Be Bold Color Block Collection and it was so much fun! I love the bold words because there are so many design possibilities on big surfaces like this.

I die cut the congrats plate with cardstock in Mist, Paradise, Adriatic, Lavender and heavyweight white cardstock. I used Stick It adhesive to adhere the entire panel of Adriatic cardstock on to a sheet of copy paper. Then I adhered only the white letters to the Adriatic panel using liquid glue.

I created the congrats word using a mix of Mist, Paradise and Lavender die cuts, flipped them over and used tape to attach the word into a single piece. Using the Hex Floral Glimmer Hot Foil Plate Set and Skybright Glimmer Hot Foil, I heat foiled the floral pattern into the letters.

Next, I used liquid glue to adhere the heat foiled letters to the panel. The Adriatic panel is a single layer and the letters are three layers. I die cut the yay word from heavyweight white cardstock and silver glitter cardstock, stacking them with liquid glue.

The leaves are from the December 2021 Small Die of the Month -- Sketched Florals & Frame (which may be released for individual purchase at a later date) and I layered vellum over heavyweight white cardstock. Vellum on its own was too subtle and white was too stark so the vellum softened the white for the right opaqueness.

As I mentioned earlier, the Hex Floral Glimmer Hot Foil Plate Set is currently 25% off as part of the Feel the Love Sale. This sale includes so many great deals of up to 40% off select products and runs through 11:59pm MST through January 24, 2022.

VIDEO | Taylored Expressions | Easy Strips Three Ways

Taylored Expressions has an incredible new release of exclusives, including products which were previously gifts with purchase or available to Stamp Joy Event participants only. Today, I'm sharing a video using the Easy Strips Dies and Easy Strips Stack.

In this video, I share three cards using all three sizes of the Easy Strips Dies: 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2". I use different combinations of colours and widths on these cards and they're just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what you can do with these strips.

This first Hello card features all three 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" Easy Strips Dies cut from Guava, Pineapple, Granny Smith and Blue Raspberry, as well as Oreo, Sea Salt and Sugar Cube cardstock.

After assembling the strip pattern on a piece of copy paper with liquid glue, I die cut it using the largest of the Stitched Circle Stacklets. Then I trimmed a piece of 2" x 4" Sea Salt cardstock and attached all three layers to the card base.

Next, I cut the Gathered Stars Die from silver glitter cardstock and attached it to the striped circle with liquid glue.

To finish, I pulled a sentiment from the Mini Strips--Fun & Funny stamp set, which was previously stamped and stored in one of my Simple Storage for Simple Strips containers.

My second Birthday card features the 1/4" and 1/2" Easy Strips Dies cut from Confetti CakeBlue RaspberryBlueberry and Eggplant, as well as Sea Salt and Sugar Cube cardstock.

I arranged the strips on the 4" x 5.25" Sugar Cube cardstock panel, making sure the vertical strips of each colour were adhered before the horizontal ones to create a pattern. Then I attached the panel to a Sea Salt card base.

I popped both parts of the sentiment on to the card with foam tape and the card is finished! This design is so simple, it would be fun to make a gift set with different colour variations.

For this third Love card, I did some basic paper weaving, something I hadn't thought about since I was in elementary school. I used Fruit Punch, Guava, Pineapple and Granny Smith.

It was hard to keep the horizontal strips right next to each other because of the 1/8" strips, the high quality 100lb cardstock and not having enough space between vertical strips.

I attached the paper-weaved strip down the centre of a panel die cut from the Stitched With Love Cutting Plate which is attached flat to the card base. I popped up the Frame in Frame 2 border in Sea Salt on  foam tape.

I stamped the On the Block--Love in Fruit Punch ink on Sugar Cube cardstock, adding a silver glitter shadow behind it. I popped that up on foam tape, along with a pre-stamped sentiment from Building Blocks--Love Additions from my Simple Storage for Building Blocks container.

For a limited time, the purchase of all three Easy Strips Dies will earn the Easy Strips Stack FREE, and a total purchase of $75+ will also earn 10 Valentine-coloured mini slim envelopes. This offer is valid from January 18-23, 2022. Head to the Taylored Expressions Store HERE or click on the banner below to shop the new release!

Catherine Pooler | Surprise Birthday Hop on IG!

It's Catherine's Birthday! I've worked with Catherine for over five years now, ever since she asked me to guest in 2016 for the Lovely Notes Stamp of Approval Collection. I've watched her business grow in so many ways and it's been a pleasure designing for her full-time these last two years, previously as a Club Ambassador and now a Brand Ambassador.

Several of Catherine's team members have gotten together today to throw a virtual InstaHop in her honour! We hope you have the best day ever!! You deserve all of your favourite things and more and I know that those who are near and dear to you will spoil you today.

My card for today's hop features the Layered Greetings stamp set. I stamped the big happy with Party Dress, Sparkling Berry and Do-Si-Do. Then I stamped the scripted birthday word across the third happy in Merlot.

I used seven snowflakes, three from the Bunny Slopes stamp set and four from the Cuddle Weather Sentiments stamp set, and heat embossed them with Halo embossing glitter all around the panel for maximum sparkle. I used blending brushes and alternated the pink inks around the edges. To finish, I added tiny star sequins from the Aspen Sequin Mix.

If you'd like to hop along and see all the birthday card inspiration, here's the full hop list:
