VIDEO | Spellbinders | Chinese New Year Cards feat. Good Fortune Horse

After a long break away from making videos, I'm back with a set of four cards I made to ring in Chinese New Year! The Year of the Fire Horse began on February 17, 2026 and I was thrilled that Spellbinders released the Good Fortune Horse [available from SB | SBC | SSS] die and clear stamp set just for the occasion.

The colour palette I selected was inspired by Marina Zlochin's work and I'm sure you will find her illustrations equally inspiring! The cardstock colours are mostly from Concord & 9th with Taylored Expressions and Spellbinders, too: Cranberry, Poppy, Sweet Potato Pie, CarnationGrape Soda, Eggplant, Almond and Mirror Gold.

This first card features an Almond card base with Color Block Scenic Scape hills cut from Mirror GoldGrape Soda and Eggplant. The horse was cut from Poppy and Cranberry, the mane and tail from Carnation and Sweet Potato Pie, the saddle from Sweet Potato Pie and Almond, and the hooves from Mirror Gold.

I used my favourite sentiment from this set which is the perfect Chinese New Year sentiment. I stamped it in my mini MISTI using Versamark Watermark ink and heat set it with WOW Polished Gold embossing powder.

My second card features a Poppy card base cut from the largest of the Perfect Touch Rectangles [available from SB | SBC]. The horse was cut from Grape Soda and Eggplant, the mane, tail and saddle from Mirror Gold and Almond, and the hooves from Mirror Gold.

Again, the sentiment was stamped it in my mini MISTI using Versamark Watermark ink and heat set it with WOW Polished Gold embossing powder. To finish, I added five Gold Pearls.

This third card features a Carnation which I partially dry embossed using the Stargazer embossing folder [available from SB | SBC | SSS]. I misted the cardstock before running it through the die cutting machine to get the best impression and prevent cracking. This horse was also cut from Grape Soda and Eggplant, the mane and tail from Poppy and Cranberry, the saddle from Sweet Potato Pie and Poppy, and the hooves from Mirror Gold.

Since this sentiment was off-centre, I shifted it to the left and the horse to the right so that the front two hooves lined up above the height of the letters r and s on the cursive word cheers.

My card features an Eggplant card base cut with one of the Modern Essential Ovals [available from SB | SBC | SSSand the outer frame dry embossed with the Mosaic Memories embossing folder. The horse was cut from Poppy and Cranberry, the mane and tail from Almond and Mirror Gold, the saddle from Mirror Gold and Carnation, and the hooves from Mirror Gold.

Due to the design of the oval and textured frame, I wasn't able to stamp this sentiment right on the Eggplant card base so I stamped it on a piece of Almond cardstock and trimmed it to fit. The oval insert and all of the horses were attached using 1mm foam squares.

Catherine Pooler | Lasso Life Collection + Limited Time Freebie

Hello, crafty friends! It’s been a minute but today I’m sharing three cards using products from Catherine Pooler‘s Lasso Life Collection. I’m a city girl at heart but I was excited to play with these beautiful horseshoes and fun sentiments.

The colour palette I chose for all three of my cards was inspired by the Calico Charm 6×6 Patterned Paper Pack. I only used five of the colours from this pack and they are PolishedGoldenrodSucculent (*NEW), Glacier (*NEW) and Pebble.

This first card features the Happy Horseshoes Stamp Set and coordinating dies, plus the Lasso Life Sentiments Stamp Set. I love the three sizes of horseshoes together and it’s so much fun adding the die cut florals on to the large horseshoe. I stamped the sentiment in two colours, Succulent (*NEW) and Glacier (*NEW).

My second card features three of the same floral horseshoes but, this time, the sentiment is from the Happy Horseshoes Stamp Set. I really love this one and think it would work well for my Lunar New Year Challenge!

I created the rustic background by randomly swiping my Pebble ink pad on a retired Woodgrain Background Stamp, which is now only available through Butterfly Reflections Ink, but you can achieve a similar look with the Mod Textiles Stamp Set.

My last card is a mini slim size and, like the other two cards, I created a coordinating base panel by swiping ink pads along all four edges to create a frame. For the background, I featured the woodgrain again but only on the diagonal corners.

Since I wanted the focus to be on the floral horseshoes, I stamped extra horseshoes in Pebble and adhered those flat to the card base while the other two were popped up with foam tape. To finish, I added some Doodlebug Lily White Glitter Enamel Dots to each card.

Now through February 12, 2025, you can get the beautiful Lucky Blooms Stamp Set with every purchase over $50. Simply add it to your cart and use the code YEEHAW at checkout.

Spellbinders | December 2024 Stitching Die + Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month

Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m showcasing the December 2024 Monthly Club Kits from Spellbinders. The first card features the “Stitched Notch Corner Card” Stitching Die of the Month and the second card features the “Friendship is Everything” Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month. Club Kits close on the 27th of each month so get them while you can!

The colour palette I chose for this first card includes PoppyClementineWildberry and Mahogany, with gold accents in the form of Mirror Gold CardstockLight Gold Metallic Thread and Satin Gold Hot Foil.

If this colour palette looks familiar to you, I used it in the form of inks in my last post. Isn’t it amazing how the same colours can look so different when used with other products and techniques?

I cut the A2 base panel from Mahogany, the notched frame from Clementine and the stitched frame from Poppy. I cut the leafy base from Mirror Gold Cardstock, the base of the stitched flowers from Mahogany and the stitched top layer from Wildberry.

After all the pieces were die cut, I stitched the Poppy frame and Wildberry flowers with Light Gold Metallic Thread and Satin Gold Hot Foil. As I prepared to adhere the layers, I decided to cut an extra leafy layer from Mahogany cardstock for contrast.

To finish, I heat foiled the sentiment from You Are Everything Sentiments on Mahogany cardstock and secured it to the centre of the card.

The colour palette for my second card also features PoppyClementineWildberry and Mahogany cardstock, with gold accents in the form of Satin Gold Hot Foil and Fashion Gold Embellishments.

Since this month’s glimmer kit features a large floral image, spanning the length of an A2 card, I used my signature tripanel design. The colours, from top to bottom, are WildberryClementine and Poppy.

After slicing the pieces using a guillotine trimmer and taping the pieces tightly together, I trimmed the entire panel down to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Then I heat foiled the floral image using Satin Gold Hot Foil.

Since the first card was so intricate, I wanted to keep this one very clean and simple. The sentiment, also from the same glimmer kit, was also heat foiled with Satin Gold Hot Foil on Mahogany cardstock. After popping on the sentiment with foam squares, I embellished the card with Fashion Gold Embellishments.

Here’s a list of monthly club kits I share, as well as some of the value kits offered by Spellbinders:

Spellbinders | NEW RELEASE | Beads of Friendship Collection

Hello, crafty friends! I'm back with a card featuring new release products from Spellbinders and this one features the Beads of Friendship Collection inspired by Taylor Swift. Even if you aren't a Swiftie, you may have grown up in the late 80s and early 90s making friendship bracelets and sneaker pins to adorn your wrists and sneakers!

Simply based on the nostalgia alone, I'm absolutely smitten with this beautiful collection and had so much fun creating with all the hands (you know me) and bracelets. I could literally sit for hours assembling these and there are so many colour options!

The sets featured here are the Heart Hands Etched Dies and the Bestie Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set. I finally got my hands on Concord & 9th's Neutrals Assorted Cardstock Pack and couldn't wait to use it with these hands. I love that they made custom colours just for skin tones and that makes it easy to create with! I used Cocoa for the top layer and Espresso for the shadow.

For the beads of the bracelets, I used Dragonfruit, Poppy, Gold Coins, Juniper and Silver Glitter cardstock. The bracelet comes with a shadow piece but I didn't use it here, opting to layer two bracelets on each wrist. If you use the shadow, only one bracelet will fit. You could also keep it simple and add a single bracelet or make it asymmetrical. It's easy and fun to customize!

The sentiment from the Bestie Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set was heat foiled using Matte Silver Hot Foil on Juniper cardstock and I added a shadow cut from Silver Glitter cardstock. I popped the hands and sentiment on black foam squares after creating my signature background from Gold Coins, Fog and Snowdrift cardstock.

Be sure to check out the full Beads of Friendship Collection HERE or by clicking on the banner above. I'll be sharing more inspiration from the new collections soon so be sure to stop by again soon!

Lunar New Year Challenge + Giveaways | July 2024

The Lunar New Year Challenge is back and we've partnered up with your favourite craft companies all year long so that means there are giveaways every month! This month, we're giving away ONE $25 gift certificate to Simon Says Stamp, ONE $25 gift certificate to Lawn Fawn, ONE $25 gift certificate to My Favorite Things, and ONE $25 gift certificate plus a mystery box of goodies from Hero Arts. That's a total of $100 in giveaways in July!

I'm always excited when a new month begins because it means I get to dream up something special for the challenge. My first card for this month features our July special sponsor Hero Arts who was kind enough to share a few products with the team.

My colour palette includes Peony, Papaya, Coral and Azalea cardstock from Hero Arts. To create the background, I cut three A2 panels from PapayaCoral and Azalea cardstock, cut them at an angle and taped them together to form a full A2 panel.

I cut the Cherry Blossom Cover Plate from Peony cardstock, twice, and glued the layers together. After attaching the blossom panel to the card base, I die cut the small flowers from the Bonsai Fancy Die from PapayaCoralAzalea and Silver Glitter cardstock.

After laying the coloured flowers on silver glitter cardstock and attaching them to the cherry blossoms, I white heat embossed the sentiment from Crane Wishes and popped it on to the card with foam tape.

The rules are simple. You must create a new Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year or a 2024 Dragon Birthday card and add the link to your post in the link-up party. Multiple entries are allowed. Backlinking to an older project is strictly prohibited.

Our July Lunar New Year Challenge will run from 12:00am EST on July 1, 2024 through 12:00pm EST on July 31, 2024. We would love to see you using products from our four generous sponsors! The four lucky winners will be randomly selected from all eligible entries and announced at the start of the August Challenge.
