Spellbinders | Let's Celebrate Collection - Part 1

Hello, crafty friends! I'm so excited to be creating with Yana Smakula's latest collection for Spellbinders. It's a beauty and you'll definitely want every piece in this Let's Celebrate Collection! I used the same colour palette to create two cards for this post and you'll definitely see more from me using other products in this collection.

For this card featuring the Celebrate Flowers Registration Press Plate, I pressed the big celebrate word in (top down) Taylored Expressions inks Lavender Glaze, Jelly Donut and Eggplant on the Porcelain BetterPress A2 Cotton Card Panel.

Next, I pressed the outline of the flowers in Oreo. Finally, I pressed the Mother's Day sentiment twice using Cookie Monster.

I used a few Copic markers to do some simple colouring on the flowers and leaves. You can find those listed in the supply links below.

I almost left this as a super clean and simple design but I decided to add some die cut flowers in coordinating cardstock. The flowers were cut from the Sentimental Ampersand dies, which I've had for a while but never used.

I used Lavender Glaze, Jelly Donut, Eggplant, Cookie Monster, Blue Raspberry and Sprout cardstock to coordinate with the inks and Copic markers. The purple flowers were popped up with foam squares and the rest were glued to the cotton card panel.

My second card features the Floral Celebration Press Plate and Stencil Bundle on a Pebble BetterPress A2 Cotton Card Panel. You can also buy the Floral Celebration Press Plate on its own if you really enjoy colouring with your own mediums! 

As I mentioned, I wanted to use the same colour palette for both cards. This time, I wanted to try using Catherine Pooler inks with the BetterPress and while Queen for a Day worked beautifully for the press plate, it bled on the sentiment. I made the attempt several times with the same results so I'm not 100% convinced it will always work, especially for newer pads which seem to be softer and less dense.

There are six (yes, six) stencil layers which means you can use quite a bit of colour! You could also used the same colour for all three of the leafy layers. I used Sixteen Candles and Grape Crush for the first layer, Shea Butter, Sauna and Fiesta Blue for the second layer, Fiesta Blue for the third layer, Garden Party for the fourth layer, Minted for the fifth layer and In the Park for the sixth layer.

This was also my first time heat foiling with BetterPress plates and I'm delighted with the results. For the sentiment, I used Matte Silver Hot Foil on Eggplant cardstock, and the silver is a good match for the light grey cotton card panel.

I die cut an addition piece from Silver Glitter cardstock to create a sparkly shadow for the sentiment. Then I attached the layers and popped up the sentiment with foam squares.

Taylored Expressions | More Mother's Day Cards

To all you moms and mamas out there, I hope you're being celebrated and thanked for all you do! If you remember THIS post where I shared a couple of Mother's Day cards using the Flower Patch Background and Flower Patch Layering Stencils, I ended up flipping the WOW back to MOM and removing the foam tape from both On the Block - Mom and Mini Strips - You're the Best so the card would be easy to mail.

As indicated in that original post, the card base was cut from Spearmint cardstock. I stamped the Flower Patch Background with Poppy Seed ink and used Bitty Blender Brushes with Lavender Glaze, Potato Chip and Spearmint ink to fill in the background. I used the Diagonal Stitch Rectangle Stacklets to create additional texture on the background before adhering it to the card base.

On the Block - Mom was ombre stamped using Lavender Glaze, Plum Punch and Eggplant ink cubes. The Mini Strips - You're the Best sentiments were gold heat embossed on Oreo cardstock and die cut using the Mini Strips - Asymmetrical Die.

One of my neighbours loved the original design but said that she calls her mom MAMA so I said I'd make her a custom version. I used the Cap It Off Alpha Dies with gold glitter cardstock for the outside edge. Since this card was getting mailed to Belgium, and the letters were a bit too wide for the card if they were placed side-by-side, I angled them and cut off parts of each letter so they wouldn't overlap at all. This removed all of the bulkiness.

Taylored Expressions | Sweet Mother's Day Cards

I've always leaned towards the savoury versus sweets but if there's one thing I have a weakness for, it's donuts! That's why I had to have the Taylored Expressions Donut Days Cling & Clear Combo, even if I had it for months before I inked it up. Haha! I made a few extra Mother's Day cards for my neighbours and I thought this stamp set combined with Mini Strips - Donut Worry and Mini Strips - You're the Best would make fun Mother's Day cards. 

Mini Strips - Donut Worry and Mini Strips - You're the Best combined with On the Block  - Mom made the perfect focal point for both cards. This first design features a Poppy Seed card panel with a textured frame using the Diagonal Stitch Rectangle Stacklets.

On both cards, I started by stamping the Donut Days Cling & Clear Combo with Poppy Seed ink. The donuts themselves were stamped with Honey ink and the glazes were stamped with Fruit Punch, Peaches 'n Cream, Potato Chip and Spearmint ink. The sprinkles were stamped with Chocolate Truffle ink.

My second card design features the original stamped panel with a circle cut out from it to show the Sea Salt card base. Both On the Block  - Mom sentiments were heat embossed with sparkle embossing powder over white embossing on Spearmint cardstock and Poppy Seed ink, respectively. They're super sparkly in real life but hard to capture on camera.

Ellen Hutson | Interactive Cards feat. Spellbinders Happy Dance Collection

Ellen Hutson has added lots of new Spellbinders products to the shop, including the Happy Dance Collection! When I saw the adorable drinks, flowers, glue and prize ribbon, I knew I had to have them. There are also two sentiment sets, We Dance Glimmer Sentiments, which I used on both these cards, and the Happy Parents Day Glimmer.

I made two cards using the same colours of Bazzill heavyweight cardstock from the Ellen Hutson shop. These include Marshmallow Chick, Gold Coins, Juicy Pear, Easter Grass, Gumdrop, Robin's Egg, Candy Necklace, Peanut Cluster and Licorice. The specialty cardstocks are Spellbinders gold mirror cardstock and Essentials by Ellen white linen cardstock.

On this Mother's Day card, I used the I Dance die set, adding the hot foil sentiment from We Dance Glimmer Sentiments to the sleeve on the coffee cup. I also used the flowers from the same die set as accents. You can create a huge bouquet as the object for the hands to hold but I used them as accents here.

To create the background, I cut a 0.875" x 4" strip of Robin's Egg cardstock, taped it flush to a 3.25" x 4" piece of white linen cardstock and again to a piece of 1.125" x 4" strip of Gumdrop cardstock. Then I dry embossed that panel using the Head in the Clouds embossing folder.

For my Father's Day card, I had to use the beer mug because it's so awesome! Actually, the bubbles in the beer lines are covered up by the label, which is disappointing but it still looks amazing. These dies are from the Let's Dance die set and I think you can see how it might be fun to mix and match these elements with I Dance.

Again, I used the same colours as the first card, minus Gumdrop but as I look at it now, I could've used it in the beer label since there's so much white on this design. To create the background, I heat foiled the Diagonal Glimmer Stripes on Robin's Egg cardstock, the dry embossed a 4" x 5.25" white linen cardstock panel using the Sun Rays embossing folder. This folder isn't sold at Ellen Hutson but you can get a similar effect by dry embossing with the Radiant Background Stencil.

Taylored Expressions | Mother's Day Cards + Sale!

I recently acquired the Flower Patch Background and Flower Patch Layering Stencil. I still had the colours I used in THIS video stuck in my head, plus I had all those extra Get the Word Out - Mother's Day sentiments on my desk, so I decided to create with them. As it so happens, all of these products are currently 20% off during this weekend's Mother's Day Sale. For both my backgrounds, I stamped the Flower Patch Background with Oreo ink. Using the Flower Patch Layering Stencil, this first card uses Lavender Glaze, Spearmint and Potato Chip inks. The Potato Chip was contaminated because I didn't clean the stencil well enough so there was still some Spearmint on it. The colour of the buds ended up looking like a slightly dull version of Lime Zest but it's still pretty.

I cut the panel down to 4" x 5.25" and used the Diagonal Stitched Rectangle Stacklets to add texture. Then I set it aside while I created the sentiment using On the Block - Mom and Mini Strips - You're the Best. 

I flipped the word MOM upside down to use it as the word WOW to show versatility and you can see another example of that in THIS video. I created an ombre look using Lavender Glaze, Plum Punch and Eggplant ink. The secondary sentiment was heat embossed in gold on Oreo cardstock and die cut it using the Mini Strips - Asymmetrical Die.

For my second card, the Flower Patch Background was stamped with Oreo ink and I used the Flower Patch Layering Stencil with Lollip, Lime Zest and Spearmint inks. I cut this panel down to 4" x 5.5" and attached it to a white linen panel, flushed to the right edge.

I stamped the Get the Word Out - Mother's Day sentiment using Eggplant ink on Sugar Cube cardstock and created a shadow from Eggplant cardstock. 

I cut the Open Scallop Circle from gold glitter cardstock and two Stitched Circle Stacklets from vellum cardstock, sandwiching the scalloped die cut. You can see more inspiration using these dies in THIS video.

I kept this card relatively flat, using only liquid glue and mini glue dots to give the layers just a tiny bit of dimension, which was needed to give the vellum layers visual interest.

VIDEO | Taylored Expressions | In the Garden Triple Slim Layering Stencils

I just know that these new Triple Slim Layering Stencils are flying off the shelves because they're pure genius and absolutely gorgeous! If you're a fan of the Create-in-Quads Layering Stencils, then you're sure to fall in love with these. I'm thrilled to be introducing In the Garden Triple Slim Layering Stencils, the first of the Triple Slim series. These work exactly like the Create-in-Quads but result in three mini slim cards, as opposed to four A2 cards.

In this video, I combine several new products from the Floral + Mother's Day Release, including In the Garden Triple Slim Layering Stencils, Signature Sentiments and Get the Word Out - Mother's Day.

As with all of the Create-in-Quads Layering Stencils, each of the three panels has a different layout. I used the same four ink colours for this project - Lollipop, Lime Zest, Spearmint and Eggplant. I used the Bitty Blender Brushes here but the original Blender Brushes would work well, too.

My first card features the fully-stencilled panel, which I attached to a Sea Salt card base. I stamped the Get the Word Out - Mother's Day sentiment with Oreo ink on Sugar Cube cardstock and die cut it using the coordinating die. I cut the die a second time from silver glitter cardstock. I popped on the sentiment with foam strips.

This second card is my favourite of the bunch and it features the a stencilled bouquet. I attached the panel to an Eggplant card base and die cut a silver glitter frame using the Mini Slim Thin Frame Cutting Plate.

I used the third largest frame from the Mini Slim Thin Frame Cutting Plate and removed a section on the top left side so it wouldn't cover the stencilled image. The result is a modern, refreshing design. The sentiment on this card and the next card are from the Signature Sentiments stamp set.

Signature Sentiments is a must-have because it combines my favourite mix of classic typewriter and scripted fonts. There are 10 sentiments that cover a huge range of occasions. All of the longer sentiments fit nicely in that empty space on the third stencil, framed by the two sections of gorgeous flowers. I used a Lollipop card base here and embellished the flowers with silver drip drops.
