HAPPY belated B'DAY

What happens when my mojo has gone on vacation and I'm already late in sending a birthday card? Seek out some of the best challenges for inspiration! My brother-in-law's birthday was yesterday and I had yet to make him a card, let alone send it. I loved the idea of making a giant card 4" x 9" card for the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #13 and I happened to love the colour combination for the colourQ Challenge #96 so I paired them up.

I used three stamps from the Unity+Cosmo Cricket co-branded set Joy Ride Icons and stamped the image of the 12 icons three times in different inks. Then I punched them out. in a logical pattern and set them aside. I used the fourth ink colour to stamp the clouds from that set into the background before adhering the icons with foam tape. I broke up the original sentiment 'Happy Day' and used some Echo Park Be Mine stickers to spell 'belated' and some American Crafts Thickers to finish the sentiment. Me using Thickers? Yes, that's new. Stickers and Thickers? Definitely new. Ang would be so proud and I also have to thank Donna for sending them to me!

My brother-in-law has travelled extensively, works with airplanes and recently started competing in triathlons so I think those icons really work for his birthday card. I smeared my distress ink block across the top and bottom of the card to make it a bit more manly, representing his D.I.Y. abilities. My sister might not agree with that though. LOL

Thanks for stopping by today! Don't forget that you have two more days to comment on my 300 Follower Giveaway HERE. The Twinery is also having a one-day giveaway to celebrate 5500 Facebook Fans HERE. I have quite a few deadlines so I'm off to search high and low for my mojo. There are reports that it's been seen as far away as Hawaii and Switzerland so that can't be good, can it? Not unless I can travel there to merge with it again. :Þ Enjoy the rest of your day!!

What a fun card, love the DIY approach (I've got paint all over me from a DIY approach, but I'd much rather it be on a card).

What a fun card, Em! You are so brave to swipe your inkpad like that; I'd be worried I'd wreck the card. (I hope at least you did that before popping all the little guys on!) :D Ooh, and stickers and Thickers, too -- very impressive!

Love it! What a great idea for using those little stamps (they usually flummox me & end up unused...)
If your BIL is really good at DIY, send him here. Totally not joking. I will take even bad DIY over 'means to but never gets around to it DIY.'
I love the way you placed the ink, btw. Perfectly balanced :)

This rocks! Love that colour combo with those icons - perfect guy card. And I love how you layered the letter stickers at those funky angles. I'm always so anal about lining them up perfectly straight but I love how you've placed them! I'll have to work on shaking off that analness...
