Today, I'm sharing the card I made for my son's 16th birthday and it features the August 2024 Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month from Spellbinders. My son thought the "Colorful Splash" Glimmer Hot Foil background was super cool, probably because it highlights the uber-adorable pigeons. ;) Club Kits close on the 27th of each month so get them while you can!
If you missed my posts from the Fair Winds Collection, you might not recognize the seagulls from Oh, Buoy! You can find those posts HERE to see them used as they were intended. In fact, as soon as I saw the seagulls, I knew they could be turned into other types of birds and perfect for my son who is enamoured with pigeons. Did you know that they're extremely unique and intelligent birds who have a bad reputation amongst city folk?
To create this card, I cut an A2 base panel from Neenah 80lb cardstock, then heat foiled the Colorful Splash background using Opal Hot Foil. It's so pretty, especially when the light hits it and subtle pastel colours show up.
I left space on the bottom of the panel so I could heat foil a sentiment from Inside Card Glimmer Sentiments using Pewter Hot Foil. I used a dark-coloured foil because I obviously wanted the sentiment to be legible but not pitch black. If I had a blue foil that matched the pigeons exactly, I definitely would've used that.
I transformed the seagulls into pigeons by cutting off half the beaks, using a 110 Copic marker on the tip of the beak and to create black markings on the wings, plus shortening the legs. The pigeons are standing - plus one sitting, because pigeons are so cute when they're sitting - on a rock from Guiding Light and the puffy clouds, cut from White Glitter Foam, are from On Cloud Nine.
Here's a list of monthly club kits I share, as well as some of the value kits offered by Spellbinders:
