{Technique Tuesday} August 2018 Release Countdown: Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Technique Tuesday's August 2018 Release Countdown! The design team is featuring a variety of release products and you're sure to love them so be sure to head over to the Technique Tuesday blog for the full reveal and links to all of the amazing projects. All of the product links will go live on August 1, 2018 for your shopping pleasure.

Today, I'm showcasing the Olive the Octopus stamp set and coordinating dies, along with the Waves on the Border die. EEK, right?! Olive is so cute and those sentiments are hilarious! What a great addition to the Animal House Collection. But that die? It's stunning!

I used the same colours from my Happy Hydrangea Gift Set, minus the pinks. Isn't it amazing how different they look here? To create the two panels, I used lots of masking paper. I cut the watercolour panel with the Waves on the Border die and separated the orange and blue parts, keeping all those little wave pieces together with the bottom half on a piece of masking paper.

While the two halves were separated, I sponged them with three shades of orange and blue distress inks and splattered them with water. All of those colours are listed below. I also used a brush to watercolour Olive. After all the pieces dried, I used another piece of masking paper on the front side of the panel to transfer both halves back together for a smooth inlaid look. Then I added Scor-Tape to the back, holding everything together.

Finally I stamped the sentiments and adhered Olive with glue dots. To finish, I coloured the eyes and underside of the tentacles with my clear Wink of Stella marker.

See you tomorrow for Release Day!

{Two Many Cards Video Series} featuring Avery Elle: Peek-a-Boo Pals

Hi, everyone! Kalyn and I are back with our video series, Two Many Cards. If you missed our other videos in this series, check out the original post HERE, which explains how and why we're sharing our own unique take on the same products.

Today, we're featuring Peek-a-Boo Pals by Avery Elle! The little panda stole my heart the first time I saw this set and I couldn't wait to create with it. I wanted to make these little critters more life-like by using them with four paws, instead of two.

I use the landscape dies from a retired set called Snow Caps to create the tree trunk. Alternatives to the Snow Caps set are Picket Fence and Woodland Wonders.

I stamped the panda, koala and sloth using Archival ink on watercolour cardstock. Then I coloured them with distress inks. I also used distress inks to sponge the tree trunk and background.

I used shimmer mist to splatter the background, wicking away the colour, resulting in beautiful shimmery specks.

By using four paws to wrap the animals around the tree trunk, they really come alive and create movement along the length of the card.

I had so much fun making this one and I look forward to making horizontal, birthday versions of this!

{Technique Tuesday} August 2018 Release Countdown: Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of Technique Tuesday's August 2018 Release Countdown! The design team is featuring a variety of release products and you're sure to love them so be sure to head over to the Technique Tuesday blog for the full reveal and links to all of the amazing projects. All of the product links will go live on August 1, 2018 for your shopping pleasure.

Today, I'm showcasing the Travel Buddy and My Trip stamp sets, and the Captions and Labels and Travel Icons die sets. Captions and Labels coordinates with both the Travel Buddy and My Trip stamp sets and the Travel Icons die set complements all of the travel sets perfectly!

After choosing my four ink colours, I stamped a few of the images and two colours on scrap paper and played around with them before deciding on a layout. The globe image is a favourite and since it doesn't have a die (boo), I stamped it directly on the linen panel. The three images in the close-up are from Travel Buddy.

I love the blank labels from My Trip and wanted to create a little shaker with adorable sparkly stars to represent all of the awesome things the recipient will see on her trip. There are a lot of sentiments and small images in the set for customizing the labels and these are perfect for scrapbooking and traveller's notebooks.

To finish, I stamped one of the solid labels on white cardstock in the same blue as the globe so the die cut airplane from Travel Icons would match perfectly. These cute dies have such great details and I love them!

See you tomorrow for Day 2 of the August Release Countdown!

{Technique Tuesday} Happy Hydrangea Gift Set

My son's piano teacher has a new gig aboard a cruise ship for the next six months so I wanted to gift her some cards to take along, making it easy to keep in touch with friends and family while she's away.

Using my MISTI stamping tool and the gorgeous Happy Hydrangea stamp set, I was able to stamp eight cards quite quickly.

They all use the same layout but in four different colours. I coloured two cards in each colour. I also swapped out the sentiments so that there are five different sentiments covering a variety of occasions.

I used two of the sentiments from Happy Hydrangea, as well as two sentiments from Strawberry and one from Iris Flower. All of the sentiments from the Greenhouse Society Collection use the same mix of fonts so it's easy to mix and match sentiments from these lovely florals.

I used three shades of distress inks for each set of hydrangea colours (all listed below), wetting the watercolour cardstock first and then dabbing colour and allowing the water to work its magic.

I also added a bit of shadowing around the large bundles, as well as shimmer in the centres of all the flowers using a clear Wink of Stella marker.

I die cut the two floating florals and attached them close to the sentiments using glue dots. This creates movement guides the eye from the top right to the bottom left of the card.

Only the first three hydrangea colours occur in nature but my favourite is actually the orange one! Which of the four colours do you like best?

August 2018 Release Peeks start tomorrow! See you again then. :)

{Technique Tuesday} Sammy's Sweet Summer + Stamp Giveaway!

I've been wanting to make this card for a while now and since it features the Sweet Summertime stamp set, there was no better time! I love all the treats in this stamp set but of course Sammy the Squirrel is hoarding the delicious, refreshing watermelon. LOL Sweet Summertime is part of Technique Tuesday's fabulous scrapbook collection and you could win it!

I started by arranging my sentiment and stamping the squirrel in the centre of the panel. Then I used masking paper to stamp the watermelon pieces on either side of the squirrel. I stamped a separate squirrel and watermelon piece to layer on top of the existing squirrel. All of the images were watercoloured with distress inks.

I trimmed the second squirrel body, cutting around both his paws so they could hold the extra piece of watermelon. I cut off part of the watermelon to make it narrow enough to fit between the squirrel's paws and added bite marks. I used a black marker to outline the modified edges I created so it would look like it was stamped that way.

Technique Tuesday is hosting a giveaway on their blog! All you have to do is leave a comment naming your favourite scrapbooking stamp set from Technique Tuesday's scrapbook collection. Comments will close on July 29th and the lucky winner will be announced on August 1, 2018.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

{Technique Tuesday} Planner Bookworm Highlight

I'm featuring my favourite Planner Bookworm stamp set from Technique Tuesday's July 2018 release. The little bookworm is enjoying his book in a quiet paradise, represented by the Cherry Blossoms.

I stamped all of the images using jet black ink for alcohol markers and coloured them using Copic markers (colours are linked below). Then I trimmed out the bookworm and his book, adhering them to the card panel with glue dots.

I added a strip of black glitter tape down the left side of the card base and secured the panel with Scor-Tape. I used a 1/8" hole punch to punch half-circle notches at the top and bottom of the card to hold the lime green cord so that it wouldn't slide around and also so the card can stand flat on its bottom edge. To secure the bow, I added a glue dot underneath the knot.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

{Technique Tuesday} Flutterfly Highlight

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend! It's been a scorcher of a summer here in Toronto with extremely high temperatures and very little rain. It's finally raining today, which is really nice for the plants and gives us a break from the heat. It's the perfect day to post a rainbow card featuring Technique Tuesday's mini stamp set Flutterfly from the July 2018 release.

This artsy butterfly is the only image in the set but you can do so much with it, especially with repetitive stamping. Three are four sentiments in the set for mixing and matching and it's perfect for creating uplifting cards. I used all three of the adjectives and added scripted words from Flowers for Her to create a custom sentiment. I lined up all of the words in my MISTI stamping tool and stamped them with jet black archival ink.

Using an acrylic block, I stamped the butterfly with five distress inks (linked below) on watercolour cardstock, then used a wet brush to create the watercolour drips. I splattered black velvet color shine on the top half of the card. I also used black gesso to paint a border on the white linen cardstock card base.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

{Two Many Cards Video Series} featuring Ellen Hutson: Essentials by Ellen + Giveaway!

Hi, everyone! Kalyn and I are back with our video series, Two Many Cards. If you missed our first six videos in this series, check out the original post HERE, which explains how and why we're sharing our own unique take on the same products.

Today, we're featuring three products from Ellen Hutson's Essentials by Ellen line! We're featuring the Totally Random Sayings Vol. 2 and Plaid Maker stamp sets, as well as the Block Words dies.  Complete supply links are at the bottom of this post.

This is a photo-heavy post so I'll get right to it. I wanted to share different ways to feature the same three products but keep my card designs clean and simple. Bold, graphic stamp sets make it easy to do just that.

I created a shaker out of the HELLO die from Block Words in the first card and I used the kissing technique to 'kiss' the plaid print on to the FRIEND word before stamping it on to the front panel. I also used the long lines from Plaid Maker to stamp a pattern on the card base in the background of the shaker. I used Studio Katia's Crystal Stars sequins for the shaker and star dies from Home & Hearth to create the silver glitter star embellishments.

You can find all the links to the inks by Catherine Pooler down below. I mixed and matched Tutti Frutti, Tiki Torch, Aquatini, Fiesta Blue, Green Tea and Royal Treatment on all three cards.

My second card features what I call a holographic window effect. I created it by die cutting the FRIEND and BEST words, then offset stamping on both the front panel and the card base. The front panel was solid stamped and the card base was stamped with plaid using the kissing technique.

I didn't have enamel dots to coordinate with the Tiki Torch and Fiesta Blue inks so I used Copic markers Y38 Honey and B05 Process Blue, respectively, to colour white enamel dots.

For my third card, I used both the positive and negative parts of the HAPPY and FRIEND Block Words. I stamped the letters using the large striped squares from Plaid Maker in both directions to create a contrast and added visual interest. I lifted the tops and bottoms of the letters to create a scrappy and artistic look.

I also used Copic marker V17 Amethyst to colour a white enamel dot to coordinate with the Royal Treatment ink colour.
