Spellbinders | Feel Better Soon

Hello, crafty friends! Long time no post. I've actually been doing a lot of work behind the scenes and I'll be sharing some of that very soon. In the meantime, I've been enjoying some personal time simply because life has been so hectic and I needed it!

Did you know that Spellbinders releases some of their club kits for individual sale a few months later? These Hex Floral Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month came out in August 2021 and you can see my original inspiration project HERE.

I actually made this mini slimline without remembering the original design and it's funny how this one also happens to be similar in concept! This time, I used Hero Arts cardstock in Mist, Adriatic and Lavender. Then I heat foiled the Hex Floral plates using Skybright Glimmer Hot Foil. 

I chose several uplifting sentiments from Mini Everyday Sentiments and heat foiled them on Mist,  Lavender and white linen cardstock using Skybright Glimmer Hot Foil. I played around with the colours and arrangement before settling on this combination of colours and sentiments. The sentiment in the centre coordinates with the white linen card base. I finished by adding Prismatic Sky and Radiant Orchid pearls to the heat foiled flowers.

Spellbinders | August 2021 Clear Stamp of the Month

Today's Spellbinders card features the August 2021 Clear Stamp of the Month, which I combined with the Small Die of the Month and Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month! I love how easy it is to mix and match all of the kits from each month. As with all card kit subscriptions, you can cancel anytime and there is no long-term obligation! I was so excited to see that the August 2021 Clear Stamp of the Month is a layering stamp set! It was so easy to stamp these beautiful flowers in different ink colours so, naturally, I chose Catherine Pooler inks. For the large purple flowers, I used Sweet Sixteen and Pucker Up. For the stems and foliage, I used Sea Glass. For the centres of the purple flowers, I used Catching Rays. I created an ombre effect with the small yellow flowers using Tiara, Shea Butter and Sauna.

To create the sentiment panel, I used Bright Pink Glimmer Hot Foil with the foiling hexagon from the Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month. I stamped the sentiment, creating an ombre look using Sweet Sixteen, Pucker Up and Flirty Fuchsia. Then I die cut it using the coordinating die.

To create the frame for the sentiment, I used one of the hexagons from the Small Die of the Month. For the base underneath the stamped sentiment, I pressed the Sea Glass ink pad directly on to white cardstock, then ran it through the die cutting machine. Then I popped up the sentiment with foam tape. I used liquid glue to stack four layers of the outline hexagon and topped it with a gold mirror layer.

When the sentiment parts are assembled, I love how it looks with the narrow void between hexagon shapes, showing off the Sea Glass layer. I further embellished it with pearl white jewels.

Before assembling the card, I created a textured frame for the card base, using the ultra large 6" x 9" Sun Burst Stencil. It's subtle but adds so much to the overall look of the card. I really love the size of this stencil because it was made to accommodate all card sizes from basic A2 sizes to business slimline sizes!

Spellbinders | August 2021 Small Die of the Month

Today's Spellbinders inspiration features the August 2021 Small Die of the Month with a heat foiled sentiment from Sweet & Snarky Birthday Wishes. This sentiment set was previously sold with Aura Foil as the Glimmer Kit of the Month in June 2021 but both items are now available for purchase individually. As with all card kit subscriptions, you can cancel anytime and there is no long-term obligation!

The dimensions of this card are for a 3.25" x 6.5" mini slimline and I cut the card base from white linen cardstock which is my go-to for the majority of my cards.

All of the coloured cardstock is by Simon Says Stamp and the matte gold cardstock is by Sizzix. The colours are as follows: Burnt Orange, Orange Peel and Sunshine for the layered hexagons, Mint for the hexagon background, Peacock Teal for the outline mini slim die, Slate Gray for the foiled sentiment, and opulent matte gold for the rectangles.

It's so much fun to choose colours for these layering dies and see them come to life as the colours are stacked with Bearly Arts liquid glue. The fine nozzle on this glue makes it the perfect tool for all Spellbinders dies! Since the layered hexagons are three layers high, I stacked the hexagon outline to match their height. 

I love the Aura Foil I used to heat foil the sentiment from Sweet & Snarky Birthday Wishes. It matches the opulent matte gold cardstock perfectly! I stacked the sentiment strip two high to make it sturdy and more polished.

To finish, I attached all the layers and matching pearls to the mini slim card base using Bearly Arts liquid glue. The sentiment strip was attached using 1/4" Scor-Tape.

Hello! I hope all my friends in North America are enjoying their long weekend. I used digital stamps from Angie Blom Digital Designs, one of the 2nd Annual Canada Day Video Hop sponsors to make two cards. The one on the left uses the Canada Day Gnomie Kit and the one on the right uses the Living My Best Life Kit.

Digital stamps are so easy to use. On my first card, I simply dragged the transparent .png files into any plain document like Word, Pages or Canva, moved them around and sized them to how I wanted the scene to look. The second card used one of Angie's already-made printouts which comes in the digital kit. Super easy! Then I printed both scenes on Neenah 80lb cardstock and let it sit so the ink would not smear when I used my Copic markers on it.

I trimmed both panels down and added some stitching details, attaching the panels to the card bases with some retired patterned papers for visual interest. This card called for rainbows, sparkle and shine so I create a shaker element with the die cut friend word and added those same heart glitter sequins to the clouds using liquid glue.

Minecraft Birthday Card by Damian

For the first time in a long time, my son voluntarily walked into my craft room and asked to make a card. It was for one of his best friends who also enjoys playing Minecraft. Damian knew exactly what he wanted to do and his exact words were, "You have a stencil that makes Minecraft blocks." LOL You can find another sample of mine using this Cube Builder Stencil [also available at SBC | SSS] in a previous post here. 

Damian used blender brushes with Ultramarine and Azurite inks on a silicone mat and full sheet of Neenah heavyweight cardstock so we could cut it down with the pattern centred.

Damian used the NameMC website to access images of the characters he and his friend use while playing Minecraft. He printed these images on Neenah heavyweight cardstock, then Damian used Prismacolor Pencils to add detail to the images before fussy cutting them.

We were trying to create a custom Minecraft sentiment and then I remembered the perfect sentiment from Studio Katia's Birthday Greetings that works really well for this Minecraft-themed card. I heat embossed the sentiment on vellum with WOW Black Twinkle embossing powder, then die cut it along with a Neenah heavyweight backer using A2 Circle STAX dies.

Damian assembled the card with large glue dots for a slight bit of dimension, then added Studio Katia Ripe Persimmon Pearls to symbolize birthday cake potion à la Minecraft.

I think Damian's friend will love his card. What do you think?

Studio Katia | Hello 2021

Happy Holidays, my crafty friends! It's hard to believe that it'll be New Year's Eve in one week. I still remember going into lockdown for the first time back in March and wondering how we will survive this. Then my mom passed away in April and the year changed forever. Currently, my dad is not doing well so I hope my family can still enjoy the holidays before we're burdened with more sadness. I feel like 2020 was such a waste of a year but at this point in my life, I'm sad to have lost that valuable year. I'm not sure how I feel about starting a new year when I didn't accomplish much this year.

That being said, I love making New Year's cards so I pulled out the You're So Ranunculous stamp set which has a gorgeous large image, perfect for covering an entire card and is so relaxing to watercolour.

I stamped the image with watermark ink on watercolour cardstock and heat embossed it with sparkle embossing powder.  Since I wanted to create a soft look, the sparkle in the powder helps makes the image pop. After the panel was dry, I used the largest frame from Dotted Patterns Set 1 to dry emboss the panel and trimmed it down to 4" x 5.25" so the toffee card base would create a frame.

Next, I die cut the scripted hello from You're So Ranunculus Dies and 2021 from Chunky Numbers  both in heavy white cardstock and glitter gold cardstock. Using Stick It Adhesive, I layered the white and gold layers together and adhered them to the watercolored panel for a bit of dimension.

To finish, I adhered the panel to the card base using a tape runner and added a few vanilla lustre fusion sequins using liquid glue and an embellishment wand. 

I really enjoyed making this card and hope you feel encouraged heading into the New Year!

Studio Katia | Paws for Kindness Duo

Hello, dear friends! I thought I'd take a break from making Christmas and winter cards and use this adorable friendship set called Paws for Kindness. Both the girl and boy with their cat and dog are super cute so I had to feature both of them on their own cards with customized sentiments. All three parts of the frames were created using the Dotted Patterns Set 2 dies.

I started by stamping and heat embossing the images on watercolour cardstock. Then I watercolored them with distress inks and you can find all those colours in the supply links below.

I set the images aside to dry and trimmed my card bases and outer frames from linen cardstock.

I die cut the frames again from watercolour cardstock and stamped and heat embossed the sentiments. Then I ink blended the backgrounds and splattered the panels with sparkle shimmer spritz.

I cut the frames a third time from graphite and silver glitter cardstock, one for each of the cards.

To finish, I adhered the two inner frames flat with liquid glue and popped up the outer frames and images with foam tape. Both cards were embellished with watercolored hearts and Bluebell and Bora Bora pearls to match their ink blended backgrounds.
