{Winnie & Walter} February Leading Lady: Take 1 + Giveaway!

Hi, everyone! I'm so excited to be Winnie & Walter's Leading Lady this month!! Every Saturday, I'll be sharing projects with a weekly theme. Today's theme is stencilling. I made two cards, each one with a completely different stencilling technique, and two of my favourite ways to use stencils.

My first card uses The Leaf Effect stencil with embossing paste tinted with three shades of green distress inks. It's a great technique that allows me to customize the colour of the paste. In this case, I created greenery for the hanging birdhouse. The In a Word: Home die was sponged using purple distress inks.

The birdhouse and bird, from Happiest of Holidays and used here to show versatility in a non-holiday design, were coloured with Copic markers. I applied a generous coat of Wink of Stella on the bird. Since I was partially stamping sweet home on some of the embossing paste, I didn't want it to react and bleed so I used archival ink. I also used my MISTI stamping tool to make sure it lined up and, if it didn't stamp well the first time, stamp it again in the same spot.

My second card uses the Madison stencil with daubers and a rainbow of distress inks to create a bold background that allows simple flowers and leaves from Anna's Flora to shine without added colour. All I did was add some sparkling clear sequins for a bit of shine. The sentiment was created with a combination of stamps and dies from The Big, the Bold and Friends and The Big, the Bold and Party Cutaways.

Here are the two cards shown side-by-side to show how stencils can be used in two very different ways. I love the option of creating a lot of texture versus keeping it flat.

GIVEAWAY

Winnie & Walter has given me a $30 gift card to share with my readers! All you need to do is comment on all four of my Leading Lady posts this month and you'll be entered to win. Good luck! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you'll join me again for Take 2 next Saturday!

Awesome awesome cards, Emily! Don't know which one's better! But using three distress inks in embossing paste! Mind blowing - I did think there was a shading in those leaves, then when I read you had used embossing paste, I had to see it once more - it was still there!!! Totally amazing!

Had to come tell you that I am sooooo impressed with that secondary sentiment on your new home card. I would have been sweating bullets stamping that onto the dimensional paste. Guess that is one more reason to invest in a MISTI! Lovely projects.

It's always a pleeasure to see what you have up your sleeve, and this post is no exception. Love the colored paste but the scene you surrounded it with is simply charming. Great color and design. Your second card captures the attention with it's vibrancy and the bold black sentiment. Excellent work.
