VIDEO | Taylored Expressions | 3 Sweet Cards feat. The Bee's Knees Cardmaking Kit

[Added: This kit has SOLD OUT but please click HERE to save 10% on Select Hexagon Products through July 3, 2022 (11:59pm CDT)] Taylored Expressions has a new cardmaking kit and it's as sweet as can bee! In this video, I used The Bee's Knees Cardmaking Kit to create three cards. I knew that most samples would be in the traditional black and yellow colours so I wanted to go out-of-the-box with mine.

I used The Bee's Knees Stamp & Stencil Combo to stamp the stinger, stripes and antennae, twice in the blue combo and once in the pink combo. As I mentioned in the video, I wish I had made a second panel in the pink combo, too. The colours I used on all these cards include Rose Water, Fruit Punch, Salt Water Taffy, Tropical Punch and Poppy Seed.

To create this first card, I first used the coordinating dies to cut out all of the blue bees from one of the  stencilled panels. I trimmed a 2.75" x 2.75" square and added details using the Diagonal Stitch Square Stacklets.

I positioned the blue bees on top of the square and added one pink bee. When I was satisfied with the layout, I popped them on with foam tape and trimmed off the overhanging bits. I tried different coloured mats and settled on a Rose Water mat.

I positioned the card base with the unattached mat in my mini MISTI stamping tool so I would know where to stamp the two sentiments from the What's the Buzz? mini stamp set in Poppy Seed ink. To finish, I attached the mat and rounded two of the corners using a corner chomper. At the end of the process video, I went back and added a silver glitter shadow behind the pink bee to make it stand out further and ensure that each card had a silver element.

For my second card, I created a Tropical Punch card base and added 3.75" x 5" panel of Fruit Punch cardstock flush to the bottom lefthand corner. I die cut the Honeycomb Cluster from silver glitter cardstock and glued them to opposite corners of the card.

I arranged three blue bees on the card before glueing Rose Water and Salt Water Taffy hexagons into the Honeycomb Cluster. Using the position of the bees, I placed the entire card into my mini MISTI stamping tool and positioned the trail and sentiment from the What's the Buzz? mini stamp set.

To finish, I stamped the trail and sentiment in Oreo ink and popped on the three bees with foam tape.

For my third card, I used the second full panel of blue bees and trimmed it down to 3 7/8" x 5.5". I adhered it to the Salt Water Taffy card base flush to the right edge. Then I trimmed a 1/8" x 5.5" strip of silver glitter cardstock and glued it along the left edge of the stencilled panel.

To create the sentiment from the What's the Buzz? mini stamp set, I white heat embossed it on Tropical Punch cardstock and die cut it using the Mini Strips - Asymmetrical Die. I cut two additional layers from Oreo cardstock and glued them together, offsetting the Oreo layers as a shadow.

I hope you enjoyed these three ideas using The Bee's Knees Cardmaking Kit in non-traditional colours. I encourage you to think outside the box when creating!

Ellen Hutson | Love is Love: Celebrating Pride

Please Note: The Ellen Hutson store is no longer in business. Any Ellen Hutson branded products used here are only available in the second hand market. Where possible, alternates have been linked below.

Hello, Crafty Friends! I’m wrapping up Pride Week here on the Ellen Hutson Blog and I made three cards featuring different ways to feature a rainbow. The sentiments on these cards sum up the meaning of Pride.

I’ll take any excuse to use the Crafty Hands Dies and I thought that die cutting them from coloured cardstock and embellishing them with the Stitched Borders Dies would be perfect. The colours I used are Concord & 9th’s PoppySpiced CiderButtercupParsleyOceanside and Eggplant cardstock.

To create the background, I misted Neenah heavyweight cardstock with water before dry embossing it with the Optical Arches Embossing Folder

Then I heat foiled the Mini Everyday Sentiment with Matte Silver Hot Foil on black cardstock. To finish, I embellished the card with silver star sequins.

To create the base panel for this card, I used the Diagonal Glimmer Stripes with Mini Rainbow Stripe Hot Foil on Neenah heavyweight cardstock. Then I used two Hearts Dies and foam tape to pop up the die cut section.

I die cut the Yasss Die from both black cardstock and silver foil cardstock, glueing the two layers together and attached it to the card. To finish, I stamped the All-Star Sentiment and added it below the die cut word.

For my third and final card, I created a card base from
white linen cardstock and cut a panel featuring the A2 Piercing Plate 2

Next, I used both the Way With Words Hot Foil Stamp and Solid Rectangle Glimmer Hot Foil Plate with Mini Rainbow Stripe Hot Foil on Neenah heavyweight cardstock.

I used Alpha Dies to die cut the letters, stacking them three layers high for dimension, and glued them on the panel with the help of a t-ruler

To finish, I used two of the Wonky Hearts Dies
to create the gold glitter hearts.

Not only are these cards perfect for Pride, they’re great for spreading joy every day. I hope you found inspiration in these designs. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon!

Pop-Up Father's Day Card feat. Avery Elle, Lawn Fawn & Taylored Expressions

Hello, crafty friends! Today, I'm sharing the card my son and I collaborated on for Father's Day. I've had all these amazing Avery Elle stamp sets for some time and was desperate to use them! I'm a huge fan of Elena Roussakis' illustrations, previously for Neat & Tangled, and now for Avery Elle. The critters are so adorable and hard to resist!

One of my favourite sets is the Forest Dance Party because all the animals are playing musical instruments. Since my son plays trumpet and percussion, we included the fox playing a bugle and the bird playing the triangle. As always, we coloured the bird in widgeon colours. ;)

The sweet beaver is from Maple Syrup and the stool, books and coffee are from Feels Like Home. We stamped all the images with Tuxedo Black ink and coloured them with a mix of (mostly) Copic markers and Sketchmarkers. All of those colours and links are in the supply list below.

We created the Platform Pop-Up from Dark Brown Woodgrain cardstock and both the hills and Platform Pop-Up Add-On from Into the Woods 6x6 Paper Pack. After securing the animals to the hills with glue dots, I stamped the sentiment from Maple Syrup on a piece of patterned paper but broke up the original sentiment on two lines.

For the custom name, we die cut the letters from Mini Caps Alpha & #s by Taylored Expressions. As previously mentioned HERE and HERE, Bucky is my husband's nickname and the term of endearment we use for his (originally Minecraft-related) beaver persona.

This style of card could be used on any occasion or as an every day encouragement card. I hope you find inspiration in this project.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Taylored Expressions | 2 Mini Slim Father's Day Cards

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! This is the first Father's Day in forever that I haven't been with my dad but I'm happy that he's in Indianapolis with my sister since she hasn't celebrated a Father's Day with him in about 25 years. In honour of Father's Day and to celebrate all men who are fathers, father figures and mentors, I'm sharing these two mini slim cards using a mix of new and old products from Taylored Expressions.

I stamped the Father's Day Favorites in Blueberry ink on Sugar Cube cardstock. Then die cut them and set them aside. Next, I stamped the beer mugs from Hoppy Days Cling & Clear Combo using Oreo ink on Sugar Cube cardstock. To fill the mugs with beer, I stamped the beer first with Potato Chip ink, then added Pineapple ink and used a sponge dauber to create the perfect ombre effect.

On the first card, I used a Mini Slim Top-Fold Card in Toffee and on the second card, I used a Mini Slim Top-Fold Card in Sugar Cube. On the first card, I stamped the second sentiment from Hoppy Days and glued frames from the Mini Slim Thin Frame Cutting Plate in silver glitter, Plum Punch and Macaron.

On the second card, I cut the largest Stitched Mini Slim Stacklets from Macaron cardstock and added texture with the Diamonds Piercing Plate. I added silver glitter cardstock behind the sentiment and as a shadow beneath the beers. I pulled a heat embossed sentiment from Simple Strips - Man Myth Legend from my Simple Storage for Simple Strips and finished with silver drip drops.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

VIDEO | Taylored Expressions | 5 Card Ideas feat. Triple Slim Boho Layering Stencil + Cutting Plate

Taylored Expressions has released the next in the Triple Slim Layering Stencil Series and you're going to love it! If you're already a fan of the Create-in-Quads Layering Stencils, then you're sure to fall in love with this new addition. I'm thrilled to be introducing Triple Slim Boho Layering Stencil, the second of the Triple Slim series. These work exactly like the Create-in-Quads but result in three mini slim cards, as opposed to four A2 cards.

I'm sharing five cards in my video. The first two feature the Triple Slim Boho Layering Stencil and new Boho Hellos stamp set. I selected Cupcake, Lollipop, Candy Corn and Sprinkles inks for my stencilling. The colours are cute, refreshing and perfect for summer cards!

I love looking at the finished panels and the different patterns are so cool, even before they're turned into mini slim cards. This first design covers two-thirds of the panel and consists of half circles and slashes.

I created a 3.5" x 6" card base from Lollipop cardstock and attached the stencilled panel with my tape runner. I stamped all five of the sentiments from the Boho Hellos stamp set in Oreo ink and die cut them using the coordinating Boho Hellos Dies.

I love the way the Boho Hellos Dies cut around the sentiments. The fonts are adorable and I can see myself using this set 'til the end of time! I stacked the sentiments two layers high just for a bit of extra dimension and to keep these cards flat for easy mailing because that's always a bonus.

For my second card in this set, I attached the stencilled panel to a Mini Slim Top-Fold in Oreo and added the sentiment to the open space in the centre. I really love the different sized half- and quarter-circles and addition to the half-rainbows in this pattern.

The last card to result from the Triple Slim Boho Layering Stencil is a full card pattern and it coordinates with the Mini Slim Half Dots Cutting Plate. It would cut out the half circles in this beautifully stencilled panel or you can create an overlay, placed in either direction.

I wanted to share different ideas for the Mini Slim Half Dots Cutting Plate so I made two cards using the plate and its parts. I used the cardstock version of the same colours, CupcakeLollipopCandy CornSprinkles, Oreo, Sugar Cube and gold glitter for these two cards.

The Mini Slim Half Dots Cutting Plate is extremely versatile and classic. You can use the main shape to create custom patterns of colour or you can use the individual pieces freely.

For the first card, I created a recessed pattern which was the opposite of what I had intended due to a glueing accident but I love the way it turned out. I also ended up white heat embossing the sentiment on Oreo cardstock and adding a gold glitter shadow for maximum impact.

For this last card, I created a Candy Corn card base and added 1/4" Easy Strips in Cupcake and Lollipop, as well as 1/2" Easy Strips in Sprinkles. Both sentiments are also from the Boho Hellos stamp set.

Thanks so much for watching!

Ellen Hutson | EBE June 2022 Release | You're So Sweet

I'm back with more inspiration from the latest Essentials By Ellen Release! If you haven't hopped along, be sure to check out the Instagram Hop and comment at every stop for your chance to win one of three $25 gift certificates to the Ellen Hutson shop!

For this card, I'm featuring the thread dies from the Thread Friends Die Set as sculpted vases in Gold Coins, Candy Hearts and Grapefruit cardstock. I also die cut them from silver glitter cardstock and placed foam tape between the two layers to create a different shadow effect.

I stamped the little flowers from Love Notes using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink and added chunky glitter to the base of the petals to complement the silver glitter cardstock and increase the shimmer element on the card. I used the A2 Piercing Plate 2 to add a partial background to the light grey panel. Then I heat foiled the Way With Words sentiment on Pitch Black cardstock using Matte Silver Hot Foil and die cut it using the Sentiment Strips Die.

Ellen Hutson | Essentials by Ellen June 10th Release IG Hop!

Today's the day! The new Essentials by Ellen Release is now available in the shop and we're celebrating with an Instagram Hop. The Design Ambassadors and our guest for this month, Chari Moss, have prepared loads of inspiration for you. We're giving away three $25 gift certificates and all you need to do is hop along for your chance to win. While appreciated, comments left here do not qualify.

My card for this hop features the Beehive Die Set, Honeycomb Background Builder Die Set and One in a Buzz-illion Stamp Set. I also included the A2 Piercing Plate 2 and Modern Graphics Vol. 2 Paper Pack. I started this card by choosing my colours, which is the same palette used on all my cards for release week. I die cut the Beehive parts from Ballet SlipperGrapefruit and light grey cardstock. I glued the layers together and added a black enamel dot door knob.

Next, I created the A2 base panel from Sorbet cardstock and the A2 Piercing Plate 2. I trimmed a 3.75" x 5" panel of Candy Hearts cardstock and stamped the sentiment from One in a Buzz-illion using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink. I also stamped the two bees from One in a Buzz-illion and Love Notes on heavyweight white cardstock.

After die cutting the Honeycomb Background Builder from silver glitter cardstock, I positioned the two pieces behind the Beehive and trimmed off a few hexagons to customize the finished shape. I attached all the panels to the card base, tucking a sliver of striped Modern Graphics Vol. 2 Paper between them and popping up the Beehive with foam tape. To highlight the Honeycomb Background Builder, I added some sparkly pollen using the tiny holes from the Thread Friends Dies.
